Day 243

I've been at this all night and I still can't get it the way I want. And it's not even my originally intended subject.

I'm fed up, pissed off and going to sulk.

Tomorrow is another day.

Day 242

It being the Bank Holiday and all we went to the pub.

They were playing live music and I asked nicely whilst they set up, if I could take shots.

This was what I got.

Day 241

This was inspired by work.

I saw the light shining through the glass and capsules and wanted to shoot it for today. It shows the quality of stained glass I love. I shot it with the glass bottle over a light source and then from above.

Day 240

I was playing with my make-up back this evening and I had a little spillage. I was intrigued by the way the colours and powders all blended together, so I got so card and created this.

Day 239

I had a day off today and went to Newcastle.

The architecture was amazing. I was walking around in a state of deep .... words cannot quite do it justice.

This is St Thomas' which I found absolutely captivating. The sky was a bright, summer blue which made the dark brickwork really stand out.

I promise I'll try and stop photographing churches, but I can't promise I'll be successful.

x

Day 238

This was taken this evening when I was out with my friend DH.

You know how you look at something and think "That's the shot"? That was the thought I had, Unfortunately DH is a bit of a bad influence so the post is a little late :(

Day 237

This is the really rather cool piece of sculpture within Darlington. It's a water feature too and the "S" shapes pivot so as the water collects, it tips the balance. They are also on a slight incline so the water doesn't quite run the same throughout the piece, meaning the movement is out of sync. I love that this creates an element of unpredictability. Despite being a picture-straightening-anally-retentive-symmetrical-pattern finder, I love stumbling across these examples of chaotic things. There is no pattern. They are truly of nature. There may be cycles and structure but within the best of these there are ghosts in the machine.

Day 236

I've been playing with feathers tonight.

This pretty much speaks for itself.

x

Sunday, 23 August 2009

Day 235

Today's been my artistic play-date.

I'm doing a course to help with my artistic side and part of it is having a play-date with your inner artistic child. It can be anything you like and doesn't have to involve expensive props. It's just time out to play and explore ideas in a fun and therefore pressure-off environment.

I've had some wooden spoons for a few weeks now and had an idea of making a doll out of them. Anyway yesterday I went to my local haberdashery and bought some cheap and silly bits and pieces and this is what I've spent all day making.

At the moment her name is Dolly but that may change.

Day 234

This old building is now the venue of the local nightclub.

It made me smile anyway. The club's called Retro.

Friday, 21 August 2009

Day 233

This was someone's bag at work. It caught my eye for obvious reasons.

x

Thursday, 20 August 2009

Day 232

This is truly the best of a bad bunch - yep that bad.

It's an experiment I couldn't get right which is really frustrating at the moment. I know what I want but don't seem to be able to achieve it. Grrrr. So the list of things wrong. The focus is appalling. It's hideously grainy and the colour is really wishy-washy.

And the things I like? The fractured colours.

That's it.

I'm off to bed. Tomorrow is another disaster.

x

Wednesday, 19 August 2009

Day 231

I was a bit sneaky and took some surreptitious photos in Darlington this evening when I went to get groceries.

These folks were just watching the world go by.

x

Tuesday, 18 August 2009

Day 230

Today I was inspired by shadows. We had a moment in the tea room at work when we were making shadow puppets. I wanted to take shadow as my theme for today.

It didn't quite work the way I wanted to but I like the shades of gray.

Day 229

Every cloud has a silver lining. Sometimes it's a struggle to remember that but sometimes She reminds me. I was out this evening for my walk when the sun went behind a cloud. I was able to take this just as it came back again.

Day 228

Today I have mostly been reading.

x

Saturday, 15 August 2009

Day 227

Another weekend, another cathedral. This week it's Durham.

As with last week, I really struggled with which shot to post but in the end this just won. I may post the others on my other blog tomorrow. If I do, I'll let you know.

x

Friday, 14 August 2009

Day 226

This was the candle that burnt at my table when I went out for dinner.

x

Thursday, 13 August 2009

Day 225

When I was out for a walk the other night, I saw this hip on the floor. Thinking it may be useful, I took it home.

Tonight I cut it in half and shot it or tonight's photograph.

Day 224

Sunshine through the leaves

x

Tuesday, 11 August 2009

Day 223

As you may recall, I posted a picture a few days ago and asked for opinions and views. Well this is the next step of the process. I'm curious to know if changing the colour, changes your feelings. Does it make you think of anything in particular?

x

Monday, 10 August 2009

Day 222

This is my latest piece of knitting using very sexy wool I bought in York on Saturday. The wool is variegated so it creates these fantastic changes in colour and has given me some ideas for things I'd like to explore further.

It makes me think of wet, muddy woodlands in the Autumn, but that's just me. I appreciate that it may say completely other things to you.

Day 221

You may have noticed that I'm a woman of obsession. I'd argue that it's passion and I fully believe that if you're going to do a thing then do it properly. However, I concede that not everyone in the world sees these things the way I do (yet!), so for the sake of argument, I a woman of obsession.

Spirals would be one. Henry Moore might be another, quantum mechanics is a milder third and I guess glass could be considered something I have more than a passing interest in ;)

Yesterday, in York, I was walking past a little jewellery shop when this caught my eye. It was glorious sunny day and the light hit it just right. It made my soul sing. It took all my will power to walk past it - I'm soon to be a poor student after all. The problem was I was completely mesmerised by it. 2 hours later I couldn't get this bracelet out of my head so I went back for it. I decided that 40 quid for Venetian glass was a fair price and I've never seen anything like this before. I also knew if I didn't get it, I'd regret it. It does mean that I'm on bread and water for the rest of the week but at least I'll have something I completely love.

x

Saturday, 8 August 2009

Day 220

I went for a mooch around York today. It's a gorgeous city and I'd forgotten how much I loved it. I spent hours, sketching, colour drawing and of course taking photo. It's one of those times when you think to yourself "Oh but I can only post one photo a day!". So this was one that I really loved and these are the ones I posted on my other blog! I'm so devious.

I love the light streaming in and the lightness it gives the architecture. It makes the stone almost gleam. Maybe you prefer one of the others.

x

Friday, 7 August 2009

Day 219

I'm sorry this isn't a thrilling shot.

I know it's bad but I'm still posting it. Why? Because I'm tired from working with only half the usual staff and I'm still in some discomfort from yesterday's neck spasms. Owwww. So my plan for this evening is junky Chinese food - check, putting on my pyjamas - check, having a glass of wine - check(!) and eating my favourite chocolate while watching trashy DVDs.

Tomorrow I should be better.

x

Thursday, 6 August 2009

Day 218

This is the underneath of the phone.

x

Wednesday, 5 August 2009

Day 217

So this is my phone photo for today. As you will see, it's a different colour. I had to switch phones, but I don't think it makes too much difference.

x

Tuesday, 4 August 2009

Day 216

I wanted to play with different perspectives. This is quite obviously a phone but I want to try and take different shots of it over the next few days to see if there's anything there.

Bear with me.

Day 215

This is a detail from my door stop.

He's an owl.

Day 214

Day 213

Today's word is visitor/business card.

I got to use my favourite method of blagging "Hi I'm an art student currently working on a project about .....". You can get away with murder using that. Well not actual murder. I don't think so anyway. Hmmm may have to give that a try. "I'm sorry M'lud but it's for this art project ...".

x

Day 212

Todays' word was "cough"

Obviously this became "cough-ee"
