Day 90

This evening is a bit of a rushed post again I'm afraid. I was late home from college and I still have a bit of prep to do for tomorrow. (Which I'm not thinking about).

Anyway. This is a candle holder that lives on my desk. It looks like it's been shattered and then stuck back together. I'm sure that has a technical description but I don't know what it is and I'm tired and a little stressed and ... you get the idea. Anyway I like the candle holder and the reflections it casts. So this is today's effort.

Day 89

Not a very inspired post today I'm afraid but I doubt there'll be time later.

Anyway, yesterday I got the chance to sit down for the entire afternoon and sew. I can't tell you how blissful it was. I watched a couple of films, drank endless buckets of tea and had fun with thread and material. (I really need to get out more). For some reason I couldn't find my pot of pins so had to stick them into a scarp of material to keep them safe. I found the resulting random pattern intriguing so this morning, whilst thinking about what to photograph, this was an obvious choice.

Day 88

The tree just by my building is full of blossom at the moment. I went out to get some fresh air this morning and give my head a chance to get today's work straight. I took my camera with me and shot this.

I'm starting to think about how I can use this collection of images, preferably with a textile content in some way. If anyone has any thoughts then feel free to share.

Day 87

I'm in the middle of preparing for a big interview next week so I haven't had a chance to get out much today. Therefore I had to think a bit about the picture I wanted to take. This was an idea I had a while ago but when I tried it before, I just couldn't get it to work. Today I decided to try again. There were alot of attempts and I discarded more than I kept - mostly because I looked as if I had a severe drug habit or it high-lighted my 33 years on God's green earth (Vanity thy name is Hottie). However, there were several shots I did like. Amongst them was this one. I just kept coming back to it. It may not be the clearest shot and there's alot of distracting background scenery but it captures a certain, indefinable something that makes me feel ... well I'm satisfied with it.

They say that the eyes are the window to the soul. What do you see there?

Day 86

As previously mentioned, my colleagues often give me random objects to photograph for this blog. My friend D is particularly good and today was no exception. This is a syringe (unused) that was returned to us. Some medications come in a pre-filled syringe, making it easy for the patient to administer. This was one of those meds. We were disposing of these this morning, when D happened to notice the bubbles at the top of the syringe. He has that kind of attention to detail. Anyway all work ground to a halt whilst I took the photo.

Day 85

This is inspired by everyones' recent posts.

Lovely Tim asked people to photograph things connected with "50" in honour of his brother's birthday. I didn't feel I could participate, not really knowing Eric in anyway, even tenuously. However, I spotted that the equally lovely Susan had observed that Tim does leave comments and is always encouraging. Therefore I decided to add my contribution.

It won't get you much even in these times of credit crunch but Happy (belated) Birthday.

Day 84

I love my colleagues. Quite often they'll find something and suggest I take a picture of it for this blog. Sometimes I go with it. Today D handed me this nut and asked me what I thought of it. "Subject!" was my response. "Well actually no.", he said "It came of the shelving unit.". I snapped it anyway. The shelf was still there when I went home.

Day 83

This is a picture of my wall. Nasty wood chip wallpaper - welcome to NHS accommodation.

What I liked about this though was the shadows.

Me taking the picture and the aerial of my radio. My prized possession.

Day 82

Another day, another light.

I had a bit of a panic today as I sat on the train from London heading home. I'd forgotten my camera! Can you believe that? The thing that hangs around me like a spare limb. And I hadn't posted for today. BUGGER!

Fortunately Mummy G came to the rescue. I used her camera and posted a picture. So the camera isn't mine, it's hers and the light is in her living room but I loved it and had been thinking of snapping it for a while.

All in all it worked out just fine.

Day 81

This is what I've been working on today. It's part of my current art project. I'm sewing on acetate and constructing a continuous, meandering line. Once I've finished the sewing, I'll twist the acetate into the spirally shapes I've posted on previous days.

I'll warn you there's a fair chance you'll see more of these things as the days go by,

Be warned

Day 80

Blogger got the arse so I couldn't post last night.

This is a picture of the beer pumps in my local. I love the shiny brass against the wood.

Day 79

I've been inspired by everyone's pictures of daffodils so thought I'd post my own.

This is the inside of my bead box. It may look chaotic but it's full of hidden treasures.

Day 77

Again not a very inspired picture but I've had the day from hell at work. No photo opportunity and no inspiration

Sorry. I promise to raise my game soon.

Day 76

These are the pretty blue hyacinths that I saw today.

Day 75

I only just made this in time.

I was distracted by some boys. It's not the most inspired picture but I love the lights.

Day 74

Today is the last day for Britswitch and my word a day. This morning she gave me "spin". I thought immediately of wheels and cars, but this afternoon, I went out with a friend for a stroll. In the park was a beautiful old tree - the sort you just want to hug. I like to have a close up nose at them because the bark is so fascinating. Whilst I was inspecting the tree, I saw lots of spider webs in crevices of the tree.

All that spider silk, spun into a web.

Day 73

Today I was given "carnival".

As I walked past the flower beds in town, the bright colours reminded me of flamenco, heat and vibrancy. Sadly the sky was grey and overcast but hopefully the cheery flowers brighten things up.

Day 72

Today the word is "brainstorm".

This is a picture of the latest bit of my art project. Basically I'm planning to sew into acetate strips and then loop and twist them round. I'm toying with a few types of line but this is a doodle I keep coming back to.

So why does this fit brainstorm? This is how my head feels on a regular basis. Muddled, chaotic and not really heading in a definite direction.

x

Thursday, 12 March 2009

Day 71

The word today was "Gallic" not to be confused with "Gaelic". To me Gallic means French. I was in the supermarket this evening when I saw lots of fresh french stick.

I can almost smell the the garlic.

Day 70

I don't normally title my posts but this one has the sub-title "I thought we said 8.30 outside the Odeon"

Let me explain. My word today is "pastiche". I was giving this some thought over tea this morning when I remembered someone elses' post a few days ago. Inspired by this, I decided to atempt a picture that would do two things. 1) It wold be an homage to this great work and 2) it may explain the other side of their story. Unfortunately I was a bit short of time and props so I decided to implement the KISS rule.

Hopefully this picture does what I want. If you're curious about the inspirational post click here to see the other story.

Day 69

Toady's word is "Gallimaufry". After I checked with Webster's (fabulous) dictionary, I discovered it meant -

"A heterogeneous mixture. A medley. A hotch potch. Jumbled assortment"

Easy peasy. This is my bench at college today. It's always the same when I'm in the throws of a project and today I was feeling particularly productive. When I came back to it after mid-morning coffee and realised what a mess it was, I realised I had my picture.

Day 68

This week I'm doing another word a day. This time I'm being assisted by Britswitch

Her word for today was "Mawkish" - and I thought "classic" was tough! I'm not complaining (Ok may a little bit) but bearing in mind that Monday is my travel day, I did wonder when and where I'd find something that covered the word. So I looked for the dictionary definition in the hope that it may inspire me. I discovered that not only did it have an emotional connotation. "Sickly or insipid in taste". That to me said one thing SUGAR! So this is a shot of brown sugar in a bowl.

OK so it may be a bit of a stretch but it's my photo blog and I'll interpret the word anyway I like. Besides I like the shot so I'm using it.

Day 67

I've been doing lots of sewing today. Whilst I was working I had a candle burning - partly as an offering for the time given to me so I could work, partly in meditation for friends who wanted prayers. It seemed like the ideal photo for today.

x

Day 66

I know this is late but hopefully this picture is so pretty you'll forgive me.

Day 65

A quick post tonight I'm afraid. I'm beat.

This is a piece of handmade paper that was too pretty to use as wrapping so it hangs on my wall. For anyone who thought that I'd gone quite on the spiral word, check out top right.

Day 64

This is the door knob we randomly found at work today. I love the curve and reflection.

It also reminded me of a chess piece.

Day 63

This is a building within the hospital where I work. I've oftern been struck by it's lines and the reflection of the glass so today, with a bright blue sky, it was perfect for a photograph.

x

Day 62

This is a picture of my latest section of work for college. You may remember I'm currently exploring spirals (see I can say the word!) and making them out of all sorts of material. This is black cable tie that our deliveries are secured with.

I really like the plastic twist. It has a rigidity that's really appealing. Hmm more things to explore.

Day 61

This is a bit of a cheat! It's a couple of pages from my current sketchbook. I'm really tired and a little uninspired so I'm afraid I'm not up for anything too exciting. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Day 60

I've had a really long day today. We had our big stock check. I started at 8am and finally at 6.30 my friend and I left. We looked at each other and without even asking each other, headed to the pub. This was my well deserved pint. It was heavenly
